Life is Hard

When the storm rages or chaos takes over, when anxiety screams or despair overwhelms, when conflict is the norm or betrayal is a reality, we understand that life is hard. We want to come alongside you to encourage you with Biblical truth that will help you in the struggle. We believe that God has given us all we need to find peace in the trials of life. Our difficulties may not evaporate, but He promises to provide a way out of our trials. He has a plan for you and it is good.

Relationships are complicated. Showing grace day after day to the same person who regularly fails to meet our expectations is simply beyond our power. Whether it’s hurt caused by a deep betrayal or annoyance at picking up the same dirty socks again, anger over a harsh word thrown in battle or frustration over financial matters, disrespect or disobedience, neglect or apathy, our hearts carry deep emotions that make it so hard to love at times. And that thought can be soul-crushing. So crushing that sometimes you just want to stop. But there is grace for the journey, and with that grace, there is healing and there is restoration.

Fear and failure paralyze us. Despair and sadness pull us into the pit. Whether our thoughts are chaotically screaming, quietly condemning, or spiraling out of control, these intense emotions can cause us to stop dead in our tracks, unable to move forward. They can cause us to rage against the people in our lives and they can destroy our relationships. So often, we try to manage our racing thoughts by controlling the situation, only to find that our irrational thoughts control us. They darken our lives and steal our joy. Our temptation in these desperate moments is to just give up hope. But instead of surrendering to the darkness, God promises you peace.

Everybody has had their heart broken in some way, but sometimes the pain is so intense that it takes your breath away. Perhaps you’ve experienced a deep loss, or you are watching a loved one endure a difficult trial. Perhaps you have been the victim of wicked sin or you have experienced life-altering trauma. Whatever brought you here, the weight of your heart is so heavy that it feels unbearable. You feel so alone, as if no one really cares or understands your pain, and you don’t know how to move forward. God is with you in these moments. It is in our deepest, most hurtful heartaches when He is closest to us.

A difficult diagnosis brings an overwhelming wave of emotions. Struggling with a chronic illness can leave you doubting your future and feeling hopeless. When those doubts percolate in the silence of our minds, they descend to our very core. It doesn’t take any effort at all to let your thoughts slip into the abyss and for the tears to start falling. We may try to frantically seek solutions in our own power, temporarily finding relief or a false sense of hope, only to find our expectations dashed and our prognosis dismal. The roller coaster of chronic illness is a devastating battle. The battle between Spirit and flesh is contant, but it is in this battle that we are strengthened when we choose to lean in and trust God, to turn to Him for our strength in the battle, and to keep our eyes fixed on Him despite what the world throws at us.

In a pressure-filled world, the prospect of instant escape can be exhilarating. No matter the object—drugs, alcohol, food, gambling, or sex—addictions lure us. They extend the promise of pleasure. In the end, they deliver emptiness, death, and destruction. What began as an escape from the hassles of life becomes a form of bondage. Addiction is a voluntary slavery. Change doesn’t come easily, but change is possible.

Grace Counseling is a ministry of love and service for anyone seeking God’s wisdom, grace, and healing. We do not charge a fee for our counseling services.
